Horseback riding, whatever the discipline, is a partnership. Like any partnership, it is only as strong as the weakest link. Bridging the communication gap between horse and human is the greatest challenge with which equestrians struggle, though also the sole path to safety and fun in the saddle. How frequently we hear about a beautiful, talented, athletic horse who "just won't listen", "went great for his old owner, then I brought him home...", or "likes to act up".  The job of a good instructor is to observe how a rider makes a request to the horse, while observing how the horse responds to that request, then offer suggestions to help improve that response. Simple as that.

At Harmony Farms, Kimmy has found that there are many different paths leading to effective equitation. A fabulous team of long time lesson horses offer a safe ride while building confidence in riders, no matter what the level. Kimmy also welcomes haul ins at no additional charge. Everyone learns differently, so she utilizes a toolbox filled with education, creativity and experience to help riders realize their goals. Individual time on the longe line, mounted calisthenics and games are just a few of the methods she practices to build confidence and awareness in beginners. Exposure to a variety of horses and disciplines, in the arena, in the open and on the trail help her intermediate riders recognize the equine response while adapting their aides accordingly. Advanced riders are able to avoid plateaus when moving up the levels through cross training, which helps keep their mounts' minds fresh, while learning how to teach their horse a new skill, thereby limiting their reliance on a trainer. Make no mistake, Kimmy thoroughly enjoys training horses to ensure that client's horses are safe and appropriately developed to the level of their rider,, but she lives by the motto, "Give a man a fish , he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish, he'll never be hungry". Passing on the necessary skills to make any horse into a safe, willing, lifetime partner, whatever the level may be, is Kimmy's goal for every student who steps into her barn aisle.
